I am really not qualified to comment on I am the Cheese without having read the book. From the summary and from the SparkNotes I read I get the impression of a somewhat incoherent plot. But it may simply be because the summary and SparkNotes are not very well written.
As for Anthem, I consider it a very important part of every student’s education. It provides a very different and thought-provoking theme that is rare elsewhere in world literature. As such, it is a counterpart to a lot of other literature I would think a student is exposed to. In short, it is a great example of literature that expands ones horizons.
