What is the price of progress in these novels?

  1. I don’t know that the term “price of progress” applies to either novel. Rather it’s an issue of the “price of lack of progress” especially in Anthem. Anthem is unique in that it is the only futuristic novel that correctly describes the deterioration of society that results from collectivism and lack of individualism. Most other literary works in the same genre, for instance 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 describe similarly collectivist societies with a high degree of technological advancement. This is a contradiction in terms as without freedom for individuals no technological progress is possible.
